GETTING DEFENSIVE

Mineral Wells pitcher Natalie Jones doesn't overpower batters or put up the strikeout numbers. Instead, she relies on control and keeping the ball low.

With the Lady Rams' defense, it works out well. Mineral Wells has a .965 team fielding average and has had few errors from the infield, which includes second baseman Amber Driggers, shortstop Becky Mitcham and third baseman Becca McDaniel.

"We've got a terrific infield, and [Jones] makes girls hit the ball on the ground," Mineral Wells coach David Tarver said. "We haven't made many mistakes in the field and have been able to keep people off the base paths."
