Rams top Bulls in 5-3 win

By Craig Holamon Index Sports Editor
The Mineral Wells Rams climbed to 1-1 on the year with a 5-3 win over the Bridgeport Bulls, 0-3, on Monday at Pratt Field.Senior pitcher Robert De La Fuentes used a strong relief appearance to take the win.De La Fuentes' performance and the teams' first win of the year made Mineral Wells baseball coach David Crawford smile.
"He got all three batters he faced in the season opener out and he got a bunch of people out tonight," Crawford said. The Rams took a 3-0 lead in the second inning before the Bulls tied the game with a three-run rally in the top of the third.Mineral Wells took the lead with a run in the fourth and put the win away with a run in the fifth inning.Caden Crawford started on the mound and gave way to Isaac Benavides in the third inning. De La Fuentes took over for Benavides with two out and the bases loaded in the third and got the final out of the inning on a grounder to the mound.De La Fuentes, who kept Bridgeport scoreless in the final four and a third innings, had five strikeouts.Crawford said Benavides and (Caden) Crawford, who both joined the team after the basketball season ended on Thursday, needed the work on the mound.
"I really thought Caden (Crawford) and Isaac (Benavides) could give us a couple of innings each. They needed the work and they weren't going to get it on the practice field," Crawford said."I feel like they are pitchers we're going to be able to lean heavily on," the Rams coach added."We need to throw strikes and hit strikes to win. We did a pretty good job of that tonight," Crawford added.

K.T. Kindle had a two-run single for the Rams while Benavides added a RBI single.Jeremy Guzman had two hits while Crawford, Carl Stovall and Harry Small added base hits for Mineral Wells
